Month of May

08 May 2017

So, it was a good week.

We left Tuesday in the morning for our multizona in Resistencia and didn’t get back to Paso de los Libres until Tuesday morning at 5:30 in the morning... it’s kind of a long story so I think I might just save it for next week!

So, Wednesday was just kind of rough just because we were running on no sleep whatsoever... Thursday we did divisions with the Elder of Pasos 2 and I went with Elder Figueroa from Mar del Plata! he’s super funny and dope and keeps it real since he’s 25 years old and a new missionary! The divisions were fine and had some good charlas together.  Friday, the Elders from Pasos 2 had a wedding for one of their investigators and in the afternoon, they had an activity in the church to celebrate... Saturday we had a capilla abierta (you can look what it is because I don’t want to explain it) and it was alright... not the most successful thing I have ever witnessed but its fine we still got some people to come! so Sunday we were able to relax a little bit in church I guess.

Dad... nowhere here is comparable to the States... I know I probably shouldn’t say this but I like the States a lot more... like a lot... I’m proud to be an American.  Yeah, all the businesses are small business even though they’re all the same, they usually sell clothes, if not they sell food like bakery or a restaurant added on to their houses, and if it’s not that, it’s a pet food store... there’s not much variety here...People drink matte for fun...Yes, they have a movie theater but people usually don’t have money for it... and no one from Brazil comes here... all the Argentines just go over there since it’s all just so much cheaper.  Sim, Eu Fallo Portugués.  The trees are painted white to stop the ants and bugs from climbing up them and eating all the leaves and stuff away.  But it was a good week over all!

For Skype, I will be on around like 6 o’clock my time so like 1PM your time!
Talk to you next week!
Elder Peter

PS no fotos this week cause my card reader broke...

15 May 2017

hey fam,

So, this week was a pretty good week! We did divisions with the Elders from Curuzu Cuatia this past week. I was with Elder Ignacio from Buenos Aires and it was fun! it has been a while since I had been down to Curuzu so it was nice to be back!

As well I don’t have a lot to say since we had the skype call yesterday. Sorry to sound super negative! I don’t want you guys thinking that I’m hating the mission or I’m not having a good time.  I’m having a great time and working hard out here! It can just be kind of frustrating sometimes because we put up with a lot of crap here in Pasos, especially as the zone leaders! But we just choose to laugh it off and be sarcastic about it just to lighten the mood and try and turn the days around.  So, Me and Elder Dean make a lot of sarcastic jokes just to get us through and a lot of the times it just comes off really negative! But I’m having a good time! don’t worry about me!  But have a good week! love ya all!

23 May 2017

So, surprise! we had transfers this week!  So, I got transferred to Corrientes Capital again!! This time I’m in the branch of Costanera! So, I got the centro and super luxury part of the mission… I got here and the work has been going super well and there’s lots of people they are teaching so we are going to help them get baptized this transfer! My companion is Elder Bybee from Roy, Utah. He’s pretty cool! But I haven’t even had time to work in the area yet so i dont know anyone or anything yet!! But its definitely a lot louder and crazier here then Pasos! But all is well!

Here’s some pictures of the investigators we had in Pasos.   Have a great week!

“Re: Finally warm in Oregon”

29 May 2017

So, we have had a pretty good week! It’s been great being in a new area! Even though we are in the downtown part of Corrientes Capital we have been having lots of work to do here!! It’s been really weird.  Being in a small town in the middle of the campo and now being in the big city! There was no surprise transfer though?? it was just normal transfers and I had been in Paso de los Libres for 6 months already hahah.  But the branch is doing well, it’s actually smaller than the one we had in Pasos but the members are all super awesome! It’s really nice too because the church is right on the river front!!

But me and my companion are going super well!  But being here has been a lot less stressful and we can just go out and work instead of always having to travel and doing things and worrying about a zone of missionaries!  There’s not much to say haha it’s all good!

Sounds like things are going well back at home and you guys are keeping busy!  But I don’t have any pictures for this week because my camera has been dead and I think I left my charger in Pasos so I have to wait for Elder Dean to bring it here to Capital!

but I hope you have a great week!
Love you all!

Re: What do May Flowers bring??

The fetch is a Christian Buddhist?

Yup sounds like everything is the same old same old, just as it is here. Tomorrow we travel back to Resistencia for a 3rd time this transfer for multizona with Presidente Franco and all the missionaries in Corrientes. So, it should be fun, we actually have a pretty busy week this next week and not a lot of energy to get us through it hahaha we’re so tired and dead.

But everyone I said hi for me! Have a great week!
Jon

Things were just as they always were this past week! We did divisions in Mercedes this past week with Elder Butler and Elder Bowerbank! They’re pretty dope.  In terms of lessons we don’t get a lot here... it’s been a struggle finding news here.  We just walk around getting rejected all day long hahaha we have 2 investigators that are dope so we always look forward to when we have lessons with them.  I don’t really got any more stories actually… not off the top of my head! You’ll have to ask some more questions to jog my memory a little bit.  Yes, I heard he got a new car…

But all is well for us over here! Hope you have a great week!

Re: Post Easter

Hey fam!
So, it was a pretty good week! I guess... we had to make another trip down to Resistencia to learn about water and the new water filters... it was boring... now I know what dad’s life is like.... But we got some good work in and have found some pretty good new people this week! Our investigator had a birthday party for her son in the church this past week so we got to stop by and help inflate balloons for a little bit! But Elder Dean and I are getting along super well!  He is making a push for one of my favorites!

And mom’s life is just as sarcastic as ever...
You got my travel plans?! Oh, my gosh you shouldn’t have said that hahaha

Yes, there are a few families I have gotten to know in my time here.
I give talks whenever I’m needed to give one.
What are branch council meetings?
Youth council activities are off limits to missionaries... plus there are no youth...
The new filters work, work fine? I don’t know doesn’t salmonella take a few days to kick in??
:)

Well I hope you have a great week! Love you guys!

PS: I haven’t heard anything about Skype calls yet, I’ll just call when I got the time I guess!

PSS: Don’t you think I would have told you if I got mugged or not?

Hey fam!
So, things have been going really well this past week! Elder Dean and I are getting along really well and having a great time!  We had to make the trip to Resistencia for Consejo just to find out we have to be back this next week as well... To get trained to use new water filters... it’s such a joke... but it should be fun!  But it was trainquilo this week! we just went out and did work no mas! still looking for news as always which just means a bunch of contacting!  So, like.... mom still hasn’t told me where she works or what exactly she does and I’ve asked like 10 times...  But it sounds like a pretty low key week at home!  Carrie’s brother as in the one that should be in Washington DC?  Astrid doesn’t like guns?!

Hope all is well! have a great week!

Transfers

But we had transfers! I'm staying in Paso de los Libres, which I'm not too sad about! I love it here! It’s been my favorite area to work so far!

But! i have a new companion! His name is Elder Dean! He’s from Virginia and he’s pretty dope! We haven't even had 24 hours together but were already screwing around and joking around it’s been fun! So, we look forward to a transfer together!

But this week we get to travel up to Resistencia... again... gotta love the long travels... so pictures to come next week!

But I hope you have a great week!

Love you all!
Elder Peters

Hey fam! so yeah... hubo transfers... And I'm staying!! I got another one here in Paso de los Libres!  But Elder Curtis left! He got transferred to my old area, Maipù.  I got a new companion now! his name is Elder Dean form Virginia! He's super dope! So, we will be enjoying our time together down here!

But yeah, the winters aren't much different... last week we had massive storms all week long! Lucky, they let up for about 5 hours on Sunday... 8am to 1pm... The Church is true.  But it was cold too... we had to be in the bus terminal at 1 am Monday morning and I had to bundle up in a sweatshirt and my rain coat just to stay warm... It was probably 70 degrees out...

We watch conference in English because it’s the language I understand alright, the locals don't even care about us and yes i got signed up for classes alright, its all good!

But all is well with us here! We get to travel down to Resistencia this week for our consejo meeting. Yes, were getting ready for Easter down here... it’s not even that big of a deal... just like all other Argentine holidays.

But have a great week!  Miss ya fam!

PS: we did an Easter egg hunt like 2 weeks ago.

What happened this past week?

Hey everyone!
So, this week was busy one for us here in Paso de los Libres!

The beginning of the week we had meetings everyday then made our way out to Curuzu Cuatia this past week to do divisions with the Elders down there!

Then coming back, we had a dope Easter activity, if you want to see what the activity was based around you can go to Mormon.org ;), followed by a baptism after the activity!

Then all weekend long we had General Conference! We got to listen to the words of a living prophet and the 12 apostles and it was pretty dope! all of us down here were excited to hear that our mission president’s wife, Cristina Franco, was called as a general authority of the church as well!

But it was all tranquilo this week and now the end of this transfer is this Sunday! So, won’t be back on until Tuesday of next week!
But have a great week everyone!

Wow sounds like a pretty interesting week for dad… Just tell Rachel that any Utah school is probably better than any Oregon school... But that doesn’t mean I like Utah over Oregon…

But it was tranquilo for us here in Pasos... we just watch [conference] it in the church no mas... The church has a satellite to watch in Spanish, so Elder Curtis and I could watch it in English on the computer! In between sessions on Saturday we shot around the basketball and then in then before priesthood we went and got pizza.

On Sunday, we just hung out in the church with the members and our investigator. But I liked a lot of conference but my favorite was obviously the Argentine dude that talked to all the investigators in the crowed! it was dope because that was the session that our investigator, Yanina, came and watched! We just hope she was paying attention!

Yes Hermana Franco got called... we were sitting there listening and heard that Cristina B. Franco was being called and I thought "that’s funny that’s exactly the same name of Hermana Franco" then when they said that she wasn’t present because she was serving a mission in Argentina we all figured out it was her and all four of us got up screaming in the middle of the session! It was pretty dope!

Wow... sounds like Will takes commitment real seriously....

But other than that, we had a pretty good week! and a baptism! Marina got baptized and confirmed this last week on Friday, it was the first time I was asked to do the confirmation.

But all is well with us! Transfers are this next week already so I won’t be writing until next Tuesday!

but have a good week!

Final Four got me trunked

Hey everyone!!
Just still out here in Paso de los Libres!
It was a pretty good week and we kicked it off with a meeting in Corrientes Capital with Presy Franco! It was pretty good I guess... I kind of slept through it all as we had to leave at 1:30 in the morning to start our travels.

But other than that, it was just a normal week of just working and playing around! Things are still going pretty well around here for all of us here in Paso de los Libres!

But I hope you all have a great week this week!
GO DUCKS

All the missionaries in the province of Corrientes

Hey fam, so everything has been good this past week.  We had our multizona conference in Corrientes capital but I slept through most of it all since we had to leave at 1:30 in the morning to start our travels down there...But it was super fun and pictures will be sent in the group email! I didn’t get my entrevista with Presy Franco since he had another meeting to go to...

Things are going well, we are working closer to another baptism with one of our only investigators (sorry to tell ya dad... your impession just wasn’t true...) But we’re going to help her get dunked this week if she quits smoking! I have learned a lot of doctrine but the thing I have learned the most is how much I hate apostasy...It’s nice having 2 sets of companionships in Pasos, especially since they’re super dope guys! and we just put in a lot more work.  We did divisions with them this past week and I went with Elder Gonzalez in his area and he is a dope guy and are working super hard over there... just contacting ya know haha.

But have a great week!
Love you all!!
GO DUCKS!! (Presidente Franco is cheering them on too)

Hey everyone!
So, nothing really new to fill you guys in on!  This past week we had district conference so all the members and missionaries from Mercedes and Curuzú Cuatiá came up to Pasos on Sunday, so it was a pretty stressful week leading up to that!  But all is well and we are getting ready for another trip to Corrientes Capital for a multizona with all the missionaries in Corrientes tomorrow in the morning… so that just means we get to travel alllllll night long…
But all is well!  Have a great week!
GO DUCKS!!

Dude I mean like I can still make fun of their boyfriends even from down here in Argentina!! Why did you have to raise them with such terrible taste in boys??  But things have gone well this past week. We had district conference and Presidente Franco came and spoke with one of his counselors! it was really good! he talked with the district about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and posed the question "what is your gold statue in your life?" what’s the thing keeping us from being loyal servants to our heavenly father? He just dropped full cane on the district for being lazy hahah but it was kind of stressful as well the whole week but it all came out well in the end… even though me and another missionary showed up late to the meeting because we were bringing an investigator that lived far away…But all is well for now! We have to travel all night tonight for our multizona conference tomorrow in Corrientes Capital…But I don’t know... nothing else comes home to write you guys about... things are just tranquilo like always!
Have a great week!

Tranquilo

Hey everyone!

So, not much to fill you guys in on from this past week!
It was a very tranquilo week of just some work.
This week we made our way out to Curuzu Cuatia to divisions with the Elders down there! Elder Salas de Santa Cruz, Argentina, and Elder Pedenera de Cordoba, Argentina. They’re both super dope!  But all is well!  We are just getting ready for some big meeting going on here in Paso de los Libres these next couple of weeks.  But other than that we are doing just fine!
Have a great week!!

hey fam,
So, this week was good! It was our first week that we had basically all week in Paso de los Libres! We didn’t have to go to Mercedes for our district meeting at all so the only traveling we had to do was for District meeting. We have 2 investigators progressing a lot, Edgar has made a lot of progress this past week after a dope charla we had with him, and a woman named Marina, all she needs to do is stop smoking to be baptized.  We have been struggling to find new people to teach as always... We are getting ready for District Conference here in Paso de los Libres, meaning all the members and missionaries have to travel from Mercedes and Curuzu Cuatia to make the trip. The Elders from Mercedes will be having a baptism this week as well here in Pasos after the District Conference.  This past week we went out Curuzu Cuatia and I did a baptismal interview for a girl named Pelu, age 19, and she got baptized the following day, but in a city called Goya, on the other side of the providence of Corrientes, where her extended family lives that are also members, she doesn’t have much support from her family in Curuzu. So, it’s quite a trip for the Elders out there in Curuzu to take! But the day of the interview there was a huge storm and so when we got to the house we were soaking wet and miserable, and with the rain hitting the tin roof it made it almost impossible to hear what she was saying so we had to sit very close to one another;-) (don’t worry my comp was there with me!) So far after this week the zone will have had 5 baptisms and not a single one will have taken place in their own chapel!  But all is going well for us!  BTW if you’re looking at hymns, my favorite is one that’s not found in the English hymn book, it’s called Placentero nos es trabajar (https://www.lds.org/music/ library/hymns/placentero-nos- es-trabajar-88?lang=spa)  But I also like Lead Kindly Light.  But sound like all is well back home! Not much else happened this week! But that’s just how it is!

Trunky Papers

Hey everyone!

So, this week was the first one of the transfer so that just meant going to our leadership meeting in Resistencia like always!

These weeks we don’t really get a lot done considering we are gone Wednesday to Saturday just traveling from city to city having meetings... One thing that was cool was this past Wednesday we started our first leg of our trip with a stop in Mercedes, Corrientes. We got there at around 2 and our bus did not leave until 4 for Corrientes Capital. So, we were just sitting there talking when a kid approaches us and asks us if we knew English. We said yes and he starts talking to us in English. We got to know him a bit and his name was Ludvik, from the Netherlands, and he was in Argentina training kids to play field hockey! He was a really dope guy and we got to spend the time talking with him to pass the time! He was just so grateful to find someone who didn’t speak Spanish because he had been struggling learning the language in his time here. But he was super dope!

And today as well I did receive my trunky papers, which is just a list of stuff that the mission office needs to know so they can start making my arrangements to come home in August...I also met a man this past week that had lived a few years in California and Oregon! also speaks really good English! we just talked about how much we love Oregon together!

But all is well! We look forward to a really fun week out here in Pasos!

I mean like... we don’t hate each other... hahahah no we get along just fine...
I mean like how have I seen the Lords hand in my week? Well we spent all week traveling to and from Resistencia so we didn’t have much time to work. But the bus never broke down and didn’t have any problems with the police this time... so I guess it was a successful trip! I guess I’m not a spiritual guy.... But Edgar did fast this past week!  He’s not even a member but loves participating as much as he can!  Yes, the rash is almost gone so I should be fine!  I mean I guess you could say they (the members) like us.. or they just put up with us...   Yes I got the package... thank you.  But this past week as  already said we didn’t get a lot of work in because we had our leadership meeting in Resistencia… we didn’t really talk about anything new or exciting… just to keep up with what we’re doing..

But all has been well with us! nothing super exciting!
But I love you all and have a great week!

Taking these Pasos with Elder Curtis

Hey everyone!
So another transfer has come and gone and Elder Curtis and I are staying another one together here in Paso de los Libres!  Me and him will be together longer than any of my other companions so it will be interesting to see how things turn out over these next 6 weeks! We are also welcoming in 2 new missionaries to the city here in Libres and they will be showing up tomorrow night!  So, it should be a little more exciting around here these next couple of weeks!

But everything else has been going just fine! We have a week full of traveling ahead of us but we’ve gotten used to it at this point...

Hope all is well for you all back at home!
Have a great week!

Just cutting our way through the jungles to talk about Jesus.

Adela!

Hey guys! sounds like a pretty tranquilo week for you guys, it was the same for us here in Paso de los Libres.  This week I did a baptismal interview for a women in Mercedes and she was baptized and confirmed on Wednesday, then we did divisions with Curuzu Cuatia and I stayed there in Curuzu with Elder Pedenera, from Cordoba, Argentina. He’s pretty dope and still in his training!  We had a fun time and they’re working really hard down there and are going to have a baptism on the 10th of March.  After the division’s we went back to Pasos and finished out the week.  We did some service cutting down branches and stuff with Machetes so that was pretty fun!

But that’s about it! All is well!
Transfers passed and Elder Curtis are together for a third one here in Paso de los Libres! But this time they’re splitting the city up because now we have Pasos 2! Elder Gonzalez from Chile and his new missionary will be joining us up here tomorrow!

así pasa en Pasos

Hey everyone!
So, it was a pretty crazy week here in Paso de los Libres for sure!

We were able to have 2 baptisms this past week. One for a girl named Oriana and a boy named Leo both happened on different days due to a family emergency, so Oriana was baptized on Thursday and Leo on Saturday.  I’m just going to leave it to pictures since pictures say a thousand words no?

But meanwhile all of this went down we had the biggest storm of my time here in Argentina, flooding our pension and everything. but I’ve gotten accustomed to tropical storms here already so it wasn’t the first time I had to clean up after a storm.

But that’s it! I hope you guys have a great week!
Elder Peters

Hey fam.
No we don’t get negative stuff about trump.. they ask us about it and stuff but no one feels weird about it towards us.. it just kind of annoying when we go and clap someone’s door and they just want to talk about Trump though...

But in terms of your questions about what they do for a living I will whittle it down to the 2 C's... Changas and Campo. Changas means people go out and do small jobs just to get a few pesos to get by, and then Campo means they go out to do ranch work for 15 days at a time…they basically do the bare minimum to get by instead finding a real job... the women are domestic cleaners, which means they clean their house and the government pays them..
I’m glad the temple opened back up.. it sure would suck to not be able to go for an extended period of time…ya know like 2 years....

I asked about the apartments in raintree just making sure i got signed up and everything, cause everyone else said that they had.  And are you guys going to be driving me down to Utah in that new car??:)

But in terms of this week we had 2 baptisms! And they come with stories! because no baptisms come easy...so both were planned for Saturday, so we waited all week for these baptisms to go down...come Thursday we do divisions with the elders of Mercedes here in Pasos. So it was a normal day, Elder Butler and I went out to visit one of our investigator that lived really far... like outside of the city far... and so while we are teaching the lesson we get a phone call from Elder Curtis:

Elder Curtis: "Hey dude I was just talking with the Cardozo family and we have to cancel the baptism this Saturday, they have to travel to Buenos Aires for a family emergency"

5 minutes later  *Phone rings*

Elder Curtis: "Hey dude we’re having the baptism TONIGHT, get on the next bus over here!  We’re going to fill up the font!!"

Turns out that the dad of the mom of the girl getting baptized (grandfather of Oriana it would be) went to the hospital and wasn’t looking too good, so the family had to leave that night to go down to Buenos Aires, and decided after some talking that they would do the baptism that night then leave as a family all together

So Elder Butler and I leave the charla and start making our way to the bus stop when it just starts POURING down rain, black clouds, lightening, and everything. Well I spent the next 2 hours running around in the rain going to and from our pension to the chapel.  Meanwhile, Elder Curtis and another elder were in the chapel filling the font as fast as they can.. we finally had sufficient water at 8:30 at night. And so, we held the service with the 4 of us Elders and the family of 4. It was really nice even though most of the lights in the capilla didn’t work and there was a terrible storm outside but we did it anyways. Right after the service we do the confirmation as well and try to get all the paper work done before we head out, when all the sudden we hear Oriana and her mom screaming at the top of their lungs, the abuelo in B. A. had passed away during the confirmation. So the Dad grabs his screaming daughter in his arms, grabs his wife’s hand says "thank you elders, we'll let you know if we need anything" and they left.. Not the perfect end to a great service. So, we walk back to the pension in the dumping rain in silence and go straight to bed.

The rain did not let up all night and was easily the worst storm I have seen in my time here in Argentina…when we woke up the next morning there was water everywhere and had flooded the pension.  So, we spent all morning using squeegees to push the water out. it was safe to say these divisions were the most exciting of my mission. It was a week of a lot of highs and lows. Luckily Leonardo was baptized Saturday without any major problems!

But overall we are all fine! I have been walking around sick as well these last couple of days after our adventure in the rain a few days ago, nothing too serious but it has been draining me of my energy for sure.

I will be putting pictures in the weekly email of the baptisms so don’t worry
But we are all fine here!
Have a great week!

Jon
